Migrant Head
Start Can Offer Your Child
Head Start provides children with activities
that help them grow mentally, socially,
emotionally, and physically. The Head
Start staff recognizes that parents are the first and most important teachers
in their child's life. Parents are welcomed in Head Start activities,
and viewed as partners to
help children succeed.
Child's
Routine In Migrant Head Start
Most children who enroll in Migrant Head Start
attend a full-day center based program.
Transportation is offered to and from home.
When the children arrive at the center,
teachers greet them warmly. Classroom
time includes many different activities
such as, group time, music, dramatic play,
manipulative play, art, food experiences,
etc. Each day, they have time to work
in a small group with other children and
to play outdoors on safe playground equipment.
Children receive a nutritious
lunch and snack. All children
are taught to wash their hands before and brush their teeth after meals, and are encouraged to develop good
personal and health habits.
Migrant Head
Start Can Offer Your Family
Migrant Head Start offers a sense of belonging and
other support services. Parents are given an opportunity to
be involved in activities that help the
whole family. Parents take part in training
classes in many subjects, such as job
training, learning about health and nutrition,
and using free resources in their community.

Family Connections: School Readiness Expansion Project
The purpose of Family Connections is to improve the child's overall development (socially, emotionally, physically and cognitively) and family functioning through expanded School Readiness services and individualized, family-centered home visitation sessions.
The name Family Connections refers to the internal (within the family unit) and external (the primary center contact and surrounding community) linkages for families that will result as they participate in the program. Ultimately, Family Connections' focus will be child success in school and in their overall lives. The Family Connections Project serves 20 families in the Selma and Parlier communities which have elementary schools with low Academic Performance Index API scores.
