What Can Head
Start Offer Your Child and Your Family?
Head Start provides your child with activities
that help them grow mentally, socially,
emotionally, and physically. Head Start
staff recognize that as parents, you are
the first and most important teachers
in your child's life. Involvement and
participation in Head Start activities
are encouraged and welcomed.
Head
Start offers you family support services,
and a chance to be involved in activities
that can help your whole family. Staff
is readily available to assist your family
in obtaining free resources in your own
community. These resources may include
job training, adult education, or health
and nutrition education.
Child's
Routine In Head Start
Children who enroll in the Regional Head
Start program may attend a part-day or
full-day program or the option of being
schooled at home by a Homebase Educator.
The children are greeted warmly by their
teachers as they arrive at the center.
Activities included in classroom time
are circle time, music, dramatic play,
art, food experiences, group time, etc.
They have time to work and interact in
small groups with other children, and
weather permitting, play outdoors on safe, age-appropriate
playground equipment. Children receive
nutritious lunches and snacks. All children
are taught to wash their hands before
meals and brush their teeth after. They
are encouraged to develop good personal
and health habits.
Part
Day Program: Children who enroll in
the part-day program attend class for
3 ½ hours a day in the morning
or in the afternoon. Morning classes are
from 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and afternoon

Full
Day Program: Children who enroll in
the full-day program attend class from
8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. In order to qualify
for the full-day program, parent(s) must
be working or enrolled in school/job training
for a minimum of six hours per day. These
qualifications are verified by the Family
Advocate.
